Monona Terrace
This triangle shawl features two arching lace motifs and is written for two sizes - a shawlette and a full sized shawl. The peaks of the lace patterns remind me of the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Monona Terrace, in Madison, Wisconsin.
Monona Terrace is written from the top down and has charted instructions only. Monona Terrace looks best in a solid or semi-solid yarn. The shawl-sized sample was knit using size 4 needles and Sundara Fingering Merino Cashmere, which is a heavy fingering yarn, although any light through heavy fingering weight yarn will work well.
Finished Dimensions: Shawlette (Shawl) 48 (60)”/122 (152) cm wide by 22 (28)”/56 (71) cm deep at widest point
Tools: US4/3.5mm circular knitting needle (at least 40”/100cm) or size needed to obtain gauge, tapestry needle, 1 stitch marker
Materials: 380 (525) yds/350 (480) m fingering weight yarn
Difficulty: Intermediate. Lace knitting, chart reading, central double decreases, optional chain bind off
Gauge: 18 stitches to 4 inches in pattern for row gauge will match the written pattern, however, gauge is not crucial for this project. Note that a difference in gauge may change the overall yardage for this project.
