A unique plant to the Pacific Northwest, the salal berry is used for many reasons including delicious pies and jams, medicine, and flower arrangements. This scarf’s namesake, Jean-Francois Gaultier, was a French botanist and friend of Pehr Kalm, who named the Pacific Northwest native salal berry in his honor: Gaultheria Shallon! In this very simple sideways knitted scarf (or wrap if you would like to make it bigger) we incorporate an easy bobble pattern to resemble the lovely native berry. Four row welts in the main color alternate with a stripe of “berries” in the contrasting color resulting in a stunning and unique accessory!
