In late summer, towering storm clouds roll over the mountains of southern Arizona. When wind and rain crash through the riparian valleys, dry creek beds surge with sandy water, and hibernating shrubs erupt with green florets overnight. Narrow waterfalls gush from rock-faces like a spigot has been turned on. But as soon as the rain ceases, the spigot is turned off. Puddles dry before your eyes as the arid desert sucks up every last molecule of the monsoon rains. It’s a stunning natural display that I’ve grown to love, and it inspired this sweater design.

Monsoon is knit from the top down. For a better fit, the raglan increases in the sleeves and front/back sections occur at different rates. The sleeves are knit in reverse stockinette, while the front and back are knit in stockinette. A twisted stitch, cabled element spills down from each shoulder. Additionally, the body hem includes cabled elements that give the impression of mountains.

I’m kind of in love with high-waisted mom-jeans and just-a-little-longer-than-cropped sweater look. However, there is no body shaping, so Monsoon can be knit to your desired length without compromising fit or feel.

Also, please note when looking at the photos: I made this sweater in a smaller size than I normally would. I went with a size B rather than my usual C because I wanted it to have more of a sophisticated, fitted feel.
