About Monstera:

My love of house plants is immense but my capacity to keep them alive is limited. I’ve decided to knit a few house plants to make sure they stay alive. This pattern is inspired by the love and cherishing we put into our knitting, our plants and our homes.

Monstera is a bottom-up yoked, stranded sweater which is full length and over sized. The sleeves are knit with a small amount of positive ease while the body has a more generous amount of fabric. The botanical nature of Monstera gives it a really organic vibe. This naturalism is mimicked in the slightly flowy nature of the fabric and simple shape which lets the colour work shine. Monstera is recommended to be knit with 6 to 12 inches of positive ease. In this photograph I am modelling the size 12, which has 10 inches of positive ease on me.

Yarn:
Yardage:
MC: 1075 (1250, 1375, 1525, 1650, 1800, 1950)
CC1: 275 (275, 275, 550, 550, 550, 550)
CC2: 275 (275, 275, 275, 275, 275, 275)

For my Monstera I used Brooklyn Tweed Loft (275yrds/50g). I used the colour Bale as the main colour and the colours Foothills and Artifact as the contrasting colours.

This yarn is a pleasure to work with. The airiness of the fabric lends itself to an extremely elegant garment while the fineness of the yarn makes for a light sweater that breathes beautifully. It is an all around joy to knit with and a pleasure to wear.

When choosing colours for this piece I knew I wanted to keep it within a tight colour family, choosing a cool yellow and a green of a very similar value. The final dark green I chose to create a more graphic divide between the two more similar colours. I would recommend solid to tonal yarns for your Monstera or a yarn that is lightly speckled within a single colour family.
