“Montane” or, inhabiting mountainous country, is the inspiration behind this cozy cowl. It is a pattern that can be worked in 3 yarn weights and will provide much comfort and warmth during the cooler months.

The Montane Cowl has been designed to fit the average adult or even teen, but can be adjusted by the crocheter to obtain a more personalized fit.

This pattern uses front post stitches and “3rd Loop” stitches (there is a photo tutorial to help with 3rd loop stitches) and is suitable for any level of crocheter.

The pattern will require a P (11.50mm) hook (this allows for nice big stitches that are cozy and not too stiff) for Super Bulky (6) yarn such as Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick, an M (9.00mm) or N(10.00mm) for Bulky (5) weight yarn and a K (6.50mm) hook for Worsted (4) weight yarn.

For most yarns used and tested with this patten, you will require 2 skeins of yarn. Some of the worsted weight options will only require 1 skein based on total yardage available with those specific yarns.
