These crochet hats are the new patterns in my “Montane” line which follows the same design pattern as the original Montane Cowl.

The first, the Montane Hat, is a great oversized chunky and very warm hat that will keep you stylish and comfortable during the cold winter months. I can verify that this hat will keep your head warm, even with a wind chill, as I have put my own Montane Hat to good use while out shovelling snow in north central Alberta, Canada.

The second, The Montane Slouch Hat, is a worsted weight version of the original hat which is still comfy and warm but more lightweight and relaxed with a slight slouch fit.

This hat is designed with a lot of textured features, using post stitches and “3rd loop hdc” stitches. For the Chunky version, you’ll need 2 balls of Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick and Quick, an L (8.00mm) Hook and a large pom pom you make with the Thick & Quick yarn or, a manufactured/handmade large faux fur pom pom or something similar. If you need instructions on how to make pom poms, feel free to browse YouTube as there are many tutorials on how to make them there. For the worsted weight slouch version, you’ll need approximately 185 yards of yarn such as Red Heart Soft, Lion Brand Heartland or Caron Simply Soft.

This hat is suitable for all crochet levels as long as you are comfortable with post stitches and the 3rd loop hdc. Some photos are included to help with stitches. I have also provided tips on how to adjust the hat for different sizing.
