Monterey Sea Otter
To me, one of the coolest things about living in Monterey has been walking down by the waterfront where the sea lions are passed out in snuggly piles. I always hope I can catch a glimpse of an otter anchored in the kelp. With this cute stuffed sea otter, you can glimpse, pet, and squeeze any time you want. This guy’s reclining and holding onto a clamshell in a classic otter pose.
The body (with tail), head, legs, and clamshell are each knit separately and then sewn together. The facial features are embroidered on, and the pattern includes instructions for creating the whiskers. Most of this pattern is stockinette stitch with basic increases and decreases. However, the pattern does include some more advanced techniques, including provisional and Eastern cast ons and quite a few short rows.
Note: If substituting another yarn, use a smaller size needle than is called for on the ball band so that the stuffing stays put.
