Moon Cactus Gymnocalcyium with Pot Soil Amigurumi
Crochet you very own Moon Cactus (Grafted Gymnocalcyium Cultivar) plant. Brighten up a drab corner of your room or office, or make a quick, easy housewarming gift for a friend. If you like, you can create a clustered arrangement by combining the Moon Cactus with other crocheted plant patterns such as my String of Pearls and Hen & Chicks patterns. Or make a row of cacti in neon bright colors such as pink, red, orange, yellow and purple. The finished height is 7 inches/15 cm.
The crocheted pot is designed to be the size, shape, and color as a real terracotta pot. The finished pot height is 2.5 inches/7 cm. I designed the soil base to be removable--like a chocolate cupcake--rather than a circle sewn to the top of the pot. This soil insert gives the pot firm, straight sides and a flat base rather than bulging. If you prefer to house your crocheted plant in a clay pot, use my pattern to crochet a soil base to fit inside a standard 3” inch pot. If you want to crochet different colored pots, you can pull the crocheted plant and soil out of the pot and transplant it into a new crocheted pot!
Pattern includes instructions for the following:
