Construction
The Moonlit Garden Sock design features a one-sided stranded stitch pattern carried across the upper foot only. The sock is begun as a traditional top-down sock knit in the round, with the heel flap and heel worked flat. For the foot (sole/insole), two sets of stitches are prepared and then gradually knitted together on either side:
Sole - stitches on both sides of the insole are picked up on two dpns or a circ needle. These stitches are created as a row of knit sts OR as two stand-alone lines of single chain crochet (both methods given).
Heel/gusset – stitches from the turned heel, flanked by sts picked up on either side of the heel flap, are worked on two dpns or a circ needle.
The two sets of stitches are gradually worked together flat, at the same time shaping the gusset. The toe is shaped traditionally and grafted using the Kitchener stitch grafting technique.
