The Indian River Lagoon is not actually a river, but a lagoon which has inlets that have direct ties to the oceans in several places, as well as freshwater river systems that flow into it. For this reason, the water is neither salt nor fresh, but brackish (a somewhat salty combination). Manatees dine on the grasses and dolphins play in the shallows, while the rest of the lagoon teems with diverse flora and fauna.
During the day, sunlight sparkles upon the water until the sun slides below the western horizon. The sunset shades of reds, oranges, golds and purples give way to the cooler shades that come with moonrise. As the pale disk lifts above the horizon, it casts a silver glow across the green depths of the lagoon that seems to illuminate the surface from below with an ethereal glow.
The sections of stockinette stitch make for a relaxing knitting experience, as do the lacy waves. The sections of slipped stitches and eyelets are inspired by the rays of moonlight filtering through the clouds to the water. An adventurous beginner should find the stitches easy to memorize, while keeping more experienced knitters interested as the stitches tell their story of silver light and murky green waves.
