These lightweight and whimsical earrings are so fun to wear! ♥
They use scraps of 100% wool and are a true instant gratification project. Yes, people are going to ask you about them! You can tell them the moon is rising and all is infinitely well. ☺
PS. Make this as a pendant or a purse tassel too!
Owl Experience Level: Intermediate
Finished felted measurements: 2 inches x 3 inches measured flat not including fringe. Fringe is about 4
inches long. Experiment with fringe length if you want!
Yarns used: fingering/4-ply weight WOOL such as:
Knit Picks Palette 50 g - 231 yds - 211 m, 100% Peruvian Highland Wool. 1 ball of each of the following:
MC: Oyster Heather #1989
CC1: Peony (pink) # 5606
CC2: Masala (orange) #0185
Be sure to use 100% wool and do a test swatch first to be sure it will felt. See the next page for alternate colors!
Tension/gauge:
24 sts and 30 rows = 4 x 4 inches in St st stitch using US 4 needles. Use needles necessary for you to get gauge!
Notions:
A pair of US 4 (3.5 mm) needles 10” long,
tapestry needle, dishsoap & hot water, hook earrings, a long cord made of leather or ribbon for pendant.
Optional: a few beads to decorate the fringe.
Tiny owl stitch dictionary: (list of terms in pattern)
CC 1, 2 etc: contrasting color 1, 2 etc.
k: knit
k2tog: knit the next two stitches together.
kfb: Knit into the front & back of next stitch. (creates 1 stitch.)
MC: main color
p: purl
(RS): right side
ssk: slip next 2 sts knitwise onto your right needle, insert left needle purlwise into the front of the sts and knit them tog.
St st: stockinette/stocking stitch. k a row, purl a row.
(WS): wrong side
