Mooshy Linen
I ended up really liking my working title for this pattern “Moooooshy Linen” :)
Meanwhile, this pattern is suitable for a beginner or rusty knitter, and is a fairly straightforward knit.
This cowl is a nice simple and quick knit that is long enough to wrap around your neck twice, or put over your head, and then neck for a cool or windy day. The Mushishi used has just enough silk (5%) to add a bit of luxury, and this cowl uses up the whole skein, so, no waste! This stitch also is attractive on the wrong side, so no worries about having to adjust your cowl over the course of the day.
Yarn: Plymouth Mushishi, 1 skein (490 yds) (yarn in pattern photos)
Needle: circular US10½ / 6.5mm, 24”-29” (optional for cast off, a needle 1-2 sized larger)
Notions: Tapestry needle
Gauge: 4 stitches/inch in pattern stitch (1/2 linen stitch)
Dimensions:
pre-blocking 44” in circumference by 11” tall
post-blocking, 48” in circumference by 12-½”
Although gauge is not vital for fit, if you are too far off it will change the finished size, and if your gauge is larger, will likely need more than one skein of Mushishi. If you would like to use another yarn, look for one that normally lists that it yields 4st/in on US7/4.5mm needles.
Techniques: knit, slip a stitch with yarn in front (this makes the little bar), cable cast on, knitted cast off.
