This is my first in a series of cabled shawl patterns I’m developing. The columns of cables ending in impressive medallion motifs reminded me so much of the halls of Moria- hence the name. These elegant cables give texture, depth, and interest to this generous-sized shawl. It wraps completely and snugly around the shoulders with a 92” wingspan! While 2500 yds of yarn may seem much, there is a rich, plush texture to the shawl that makes it perfect for colder, winter days.

Size could be adjusted by changing yarn/hook size or doing more/fewer cable repeats.

Gauge is not essential to this project, although keeping a tighter hand on the long cables will keep things looking crisp and neat.

Materials used are 6 skeins of Willow Yarns Quest, 3.5 mm hook, scissors, stitch marker, and blunt tip needle for weaving in ends.

You could substitute a similar fingering weight yarn for the Quest.

This is not a terribly complicated cable pattern, but it does require knowledge of post stitches and working behind and in front of post stitches.

I strongly recommend you take a look at my Beautiful Cables: Ghost Stitch Tutorial prior to doing this and any of my cable patterns. The results from this simple technique are amazing! http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/beautiful-cables-...
