For these two designs, I used the same variation of the feather and fan pattern, differing only in the number of stitch pattern and round repeats to determine the circumference and height of each design, plus the addition of Japanese seed beads to the gradient version.

Both designs were named for a couple of nature’s wonders in Wyoming: Nephrite Jade for the Wyoming State gemstone, found in the textured qualities of the beautifully blended handspun and in the cowl, and Morning Glory Pool for the striking resemblance of the gradient handspun and the resulting cowl to the amazing hot spring I can still recall on a trek to see Old Faithful years ago.

Both yarns were spun to maximize drape. The addition of hemp in the all green yarn and the extra twist and beads in the gradient yarn resulted in both cowls exhibiting wonderful drape despite having been made out of a notoriously lofty (instead of drapey) fiber.
