Broomstick lace is one of those stitches that looks a lot harder than it actually is. Once you get into a rhythm, it is a quick and easy stitch to complete, with beautiful results. Working stitches in the back loop only adds texture and drape. The key to this pattern is choosing a combination of hook size and yarn that gives you a nice drapey fabric. Solid or tonally variegated colourways of yarn are recommended.

If you like this design, check out the Ellesmere Slouchy Hat, which also uses the same stitch pattern.

NOTE: The suggested hook size is 4mm, or a US G (not a US 7 as erroneously stated in an earlier version of the pattern - it has since been corrected). However, feel free to use whatever hook size works best for your yarn!

ERRATA: There is a minor typo in Row 2 of the Main Body instructions in version 1.1 of the pattern. Please make sure you have downloaded the corrected version 1.2.
