About this pattern
‘Morozko’ is a double-layered hat (inner layer optional), knit bottom up in the round with small ear flaps for extra warmth. It is decorated with a unisex print of faux cables against moss-stitch background and an optional pompom.
You start with I-cord ties, then work your way up the ears (each knit separately in the round – both layers at the same time). You then place then inside layers on hold and join the two earflaps to work the rest of the hat in the round: first the outer layer, then the inner layer.
This hat is part of a set with Morozko Cowl.

Sizes
Pattern includes 7 sizes listed as 1 (2, 3, 4) (5, 6, 7) intended to fit 41 (43, 45, 47) (49, 51, 53) cm / 16.25 (17, 17.75, 18.5) (19.25, 20, 20.75)” head circumference.
The approximate age is 0-4 m.o. (4-8 m.o., 8-12 m.o, 12-18 m.o)
(2-3 y.o., 3-5 y.o., 5-8 y.o.). However, if you can measure the child’s head, it is always best to pick the size based on actual head circumference, rather than age.
If you skip inner layer, your hat will end up ~half a size (1 cm/0.5”) bigger than selected size.

Yarn
~ 160 (180, 200, 220) (240, 260, 280) m / 175 (195, 220, 240) (260, 285, 305) yds of DK weight (~200-250m/220-275yds per 100g/3.5oz) yarn with high soft wool content (e.g. merino).
For a slightly milder winter / fall choose yarns with some cotton content.
You can choose to work the layers in different colors or even yarns (e.g. a fuzzy outside and a smooth inside).
I used Lana Gatto ‘Super Soft’ for my samples, other yarns successfully used by testers are listed in the yarn recommendations.

Needles: 4 mm/ US 6 (or size to get gauge!) circular needles on ~40cm/16” cable + second set of circular needles on a longer cable to place inner layer on hold + DPNs for the crown (optional, you can also work the crown on long circulars with ‘magic loop’ method)

Gauge (measured after wet-blocking, unstretched per 10cm/4” square):
• 21 sts by 30 rows in stockinette
• 21 sts by 38 rows in seed stitch
