Morpho
Morpho is a relatively easy lace-and-texture triangle shawl, knit diagonally. The smaller size can be made with a single skein of luxury fingering-weight yarn: Malabrigo Mechita or madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light are both good options. (The sample is shown in Tosh Merino Light in colorway “Danger, Will Robinson.”)
This project has pretty minimal material requirements—just 1-2 skeins of yarn and a long circular needle—and a soothingly predictable pattern once work is established, so it makes a decent travel-knitting option.
Sizes:
There are two size options. The larger has not been fully tested, but the smaller version is reliable and measures 60” across the longest side.
Gauge:
Gauge is 15 sts and 24 rows in blocked American moss stitch —a very loose, airy gauge. Gauge is only important for yardage estimates and finished dimensions, so it’s worth checking for those reasons.
Materials:
- About 400 yards or 1 skein of Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light, or a similar fingering-weight yarn
- 1 40” circular needle in US7-8/4.5-5.0mm, or size needed for gauge
- Tapestry needle
Morpho is now available in English and Chinese!
