Morpho Butterfly Throw
The Blue Morpho Butterfly has always been a favorite of mine. It’s huge shimmery blue wings are so beautiful! It is a symbol of hope and healing.
I used KnitPal’s “Wool Wonders” yarn, which is a soft single ply blend of 30% Australian Wool and 70% acrylic for crisp stitch definition and beautiful drape. The gauge is not extremely important since this is not a fitted garment, but the size of the blanket will depend on the size of your yarn and needles. My sample measured 33” x 33” using a worsted weight yarn on size US 8 (5mm) needles.
There is a special technique used for the edges, so you will have finished, beautiful edges without having to add anything to the body of the blanket. At the end of each row, the last two stitches (front and back) are slipped. There is a link to a video tutorial for this technique included in the pattern.
You’ll also find links to a video tutorials on how to cast on and bind off invisibly with two colors so you get a finished look to your beginning and ending edges.
The pattern includes detailed written instructions as well as a full chart and four additional charts that are meant to be printed and taped together to make an easier to see chart.
