• This pattern includes a detailed chart with stitch key and general written directions for using the chart to complete your project. If you’re new to mosaic crochet, there are many helpful YouTube videos. That’s how I learned!

• The chart is for a placemat without repeats, using the overlay mosaic crochet technique. Experienced mosaic crocheters will be able to adapt the chart for pieces with repeats, such as table runners, afghans, blankets, wall hangings, bags, and pillows.

• Two versions of the chart are provided: (1) a print chart with two pages that can be taped together so you can see the entire pattern, and (2) a screen chart if you prefer viewing the pattern on a screen.

• The design was inspired by African kuba cloth patterns. The sample placemat was made with lightweight DK (#3) yarn and an E (3.5mm) hook, with a gauge of 6 stitches and 6 rows per inch. It measures approximately 18 by 12 inches.
