Mosaic Blocks Blanket
The pattern has two versions - one made in overlay mosaic style and one in inset mosaic (overlay changes colors and cuts the yarn after each row, with inset you do two rows per color and do not cut the yarn). The blanket in the pictures is made in the inset style - an overlay version would very similar but slightly less stretched out vertically.
This design was created as a gift for my dad, it’s quite relaxing and straightforward to follow and you can pick and mix the charts/ patterns as you wish!
Both patterns include four small charts, with drop-down stitches marked with an ‘X’ and written instructions for each row. This pattern is suitable for someone who is intermediate at crochet, particularly those who have done some mosaic crochet before. I have included some basic instructions and photos, and links for some of my favorite video tutorials, including my own technique for avoiding loose chains at the back of your inset mosaic piece.
I give some ideas for making a blanket, but the repeating mosaic pattern below could also be used for a scarf, table runner or cushion cover, amongst many other possibilities. The patterns included technically repeat every 6, 12 or 24 stitches across - but all of the patterns change every 6 stitches, so you can choose a repeat of six if scaling the pattern up or down.
For my blanket, 38” wide x 45” tall, I used approximately 1400m /475g color A yarn, and 750m /250g color B. I used DK weight (group 3) yarn, Stylecraft Special DK in copper, spice, tomato, saffron (color B) and burgundy for color A.
