This design is inspired by ancients mosaics - artworks created with small sections of different colours.
The earliest recorded mosaics are found at Abra in Mesopotamia, believed to be from the second half of 3rd millennium BC.

Two colours are knitted into each row, the colours alternately carried behind the work to create a substantial but soft double-layer fabric which has excellent insulation qualities - ideal to keep out cool breezes.

The pattern, for hand knit (and standard gauge single or double bed knitting machine), includes colour stitch chart, as well as written instructions and links to useful resources.
