This is a great way to learn a number of great techniques - not the least of which is Mosaic Knitting.

You will need two highly contrasting yarns - eg: Black & White, Yellow & Blue, Purple & Orange, Red & Green - you can also use a Light and a Dark. If you use colors that are not contrasting or highly differentiated by shade, it may be difficult to see the pattern.

Great way to use up some left over yarn from previous projects.

Finished size using Worsted - 9 inch square

Notions Needed:

  1. Crochet Hook & Scrap Yarn (for Provisional Cast-on)
  2. About 100 yds each of the 2 colors (A & B) contrasting Yarn. You’ll need a bit more of Color A - for the finishing rows. This sampler can be done in any size yarn - just adjust your needle size accordingly.
  3. Straight & 32” circular knitting needles in proper size (Fingering - Size 4, Worsted - Size 7 or 8, Bulky - Size 11). If working in Bulky yarn, you may need the longer cable.
