Mosaic Twill Hat
This pattern was designed using Western Mass Fibershed yarn. A portion of all proceeds will go to them to continue to fulfill their mission of creating a thriving, sustainable, and restorative local/regional fiber economy, connecting fiber farmers, spinning mills, weavers, artisans, designers, and consumers in western Massachusetts. Or use dk/light worsted weight yarn, approx 101 yds Main Color (MC) and 84 yds Contrast Color (CC) for large tall hat; and approx. 58 yd MC and 83 yd CC for medium-large beanie, both using grey in the brim. I’ve added 15% extra yardage to be safe.
Finished Sizes:
Large and tall (wear tall or slouchy), after washing, ~20” circumference but stretches to fit up to 23” head; Height: brim to top of crown 9.5”
Medium-Large, ~20” and stretches, Height 7”
Gauge is provided with specific directions for stockinette and for the mosaic pattern (which is harder to swatch, and which is smaller (denser) in the hat than in the swatch).
Mosaic (slip stitch) knitting is a great colorwork option - only use one color yarn each row, slipping the alternate color already on the needle as described in the text and charted mosaic pattern.
Two color options are given for a dark color yarn “outline” and a light color yarn “outline.”
I hope you enjoy this pattern and if you don’t use WMF yarn, I hope you have a local farm yarn you can use near you!
