I designed this crochet moses basket for a toddler whose mother wanted something which was pretty and enjoyable for a toddler to use, but was also as safe as possible. So, this is quite a basic basket, with short handles, okay for little hands, and no extra bits apart from a mattress and blanket.
I have used mainly dc and sc stitches, but with a contrasting colour to add variety.

However, I also wanted to make a basket which held its shape (like a carry bag) and was made to a pattern which was easy to understand and which worked well, and I think I’ve succeeded.

The full pattern contains full written instructions for making the basket, mattress and blanket.
It also contains many pictures to show the making process and sketches and charts for rounds which may need help with explanation.

I have placed all but the first picture at the end of the pattern, so you should be able to print out the first pages but leave the pictures to view online if you want to save printing ink and paper.

There is also a fully Print Friendly version if you prefer.

My moses basket measures:
10.5 inches (26.5 cms) length across the bottom and is 5.5 inches (14 cms) wide.
It is 4 inches (10 cms) deep around (at the hood end it is 5.5 inches (14 cms) deep maximum).
The matching blanket (made with single-strand dk) is 8 inches (20.5 cms) long and 9 inches (23 cms) wide.

The basket should take a soft toy or doll up to 10 inches long with a snug fit (the teddy used here is 8 inches long and has a little extra room).

The basket has been made and tested only with DK yarn, double-stranded, and a 5.5mm crochet hook.
However, it should make a similar size with chunky yarn, and be a little larger if made with double-stranded worsted yarn.
