Mossa mittens
I got the inspiration for these mittens from the Swedish “Lovikkavanten” which almost everyone in Sweden has worn during their childhood. A special design feature is the folded cuff that keeps you extra warm over the wrist. The cuff is decorated with Latvian braids and brioche, the mitten itself is knitted in Irish moss stitch using two different colors. My choice of making the Irish moss stitch in two colors, and therefore working with two yarns during the entire mitten, automatically makes it warmer.
Mitten length:
16, 18, 19.5, 20.5(23, 25, 27) cm
Mitten circumference:
15, 16.5, 17.5, 18.5(19.5, 20.5, 22) cm around
Yarn
Lettlopi 200 m/100g. 100% wool
C1: 45, 50, 60, 75(80,100,120) m.
C2: 45, 50, 60, 75(80,100, 120) m.
Needles
Long circular needle for magic loop, at least 80 cm, or double pointed needles. With pointy needles, the increases will be nicer.
Gauge
22 sts = 10 cm in two color Irish moss stitch after blocking.
The gauge is important so if you get the wrong gauge you need to change size of the needles.
