The cable as charted is 24 sts wide. RS rows only are charted. Knit WS rows in pattern.

As the weather gets colder, my craving for cabled woollen knits gets stronger. This time, I wanted a vest with a cabled collar.

My search started with existing vest patterns, but none of them were quite right. Next, I searched through cable patterns, looking for inspiration. I wanted a simple classic cable, but with a bit of a twist, Having failed here too, I decided to create my own.

This cable pattern is a bit unusual. It starts with the usual knit-purl ribs, but then contracts to a central knot with no purls ribs then bursts back out. It also uses uneven ribs - the two bordering sections are 2x1x2 instead of the more common 2x2x2.
