Motorway
I named this neckwarmer Motorway as a tribute to Detroit (the Motor City) and the history of roadways and transportation in Michigan.
Motorway is a layered and multi sized neckwarmer in worsted weight yarn with an optional worsted, dk or fingering weight lining. It keeps you cozy while making a style statement. Choose from two sizes and wear it low and cool or high and dramatic. Motorway has several wearing options: scrunch the lining down inside the body, pull it up around your face, turn it over the body to show it off, or even turn the entire neck warmer inside out for a reversible vibe.
Motorway is knit seamlessly on circular needles. Ribbed edgings keep it looking neat. The body has a combination of stockinette and garter fabrics with a large cable twist in the middle. A bit of shaping tapers the body near the top. The lining is knit from picked up stitches along the inside of the body. When tucked inside, the lining gives Motorway nice stability.
Mix and match yarns if you like! Knit the body in worsted weight, and then knit the lining in either worsted, dk or fingering weight.
I recommend Plied Yarn Penn Ave worsted and Harrisville Designs Highland for the body, and Plied Yarn North Ave fingering or Harrisville Designs Daylights or Nightshades DK for the lining.
Yardages used for size A: approx. 200 yards main color for body & 175 yards contrast color for lining; size B: approx. 375 yards main color for body & 175 yards contrast color for lining
Extra Yarn Note: I originally collaborated with Willlie Smith for yarn to make this design. His yarn is available infrequently, and in very small batches, so we agreed to add regularly available yarn to the suggestions. If you follow Willie Nillie Knits on instagram, you might be able to score his worsted yarn. I highly recommend!
