PATTERN NOTES
While traveling in Iceland in the summer of 2022, a friend and I made the foolish decision to attempt to drive to the top of Snæfellsjökull, a glacier-covered volcano. We found ourselves in a very precarious position, perched in our rental car at the top of a terrifyingly steep road. We were aided, however, by a helpful “angel,” who managed to turn our car around and then seemingly disappeared into the clouds. He is the inspiration for the name of the design.

Made using Icelandic Lett Lopi yarn, this poncho is worked from the top down (unlike typical bottom-up Lopapeysa sweaters). The top-down construction allows you to try on the garment as you work, to adjust the length as needed. (You may need to purchase an additional skein of yarn, if you want to add length to your poncho.)

Stranded colorwork creates a vibrant yok, while centered front-and-back increases make for a flowing and comfortable accessory. This Icelandic wool, with special properties resulting from the survival needs of sheep braving a harsh winter climate, both insulates and helps prevent moisture from penetrating to the inside.
