This pattern was inspired by silhouettes of mountains and pine trees, and is worked in overlay mosaic crochet.

This is a fairly simple pattern suitable for someone who is a confident beginner or intermediate at crochet. If you are new to mosaic crochet patterns, I find working in the round from the centre like we do in this pattern is a great way to begin, as you don’t have lots of ends to weave in or cover like you would when working in rows. Each time we change colours in this piece, you drop the previous colour behind and pick it up in the next round without cutting.

The pattern includes written, step-by-step instructions, a chart with drop-down stitches marked with an X, photos for some key techniques and links to video tutorials that may help with the techniques involved (videos were not made by me but are my recommendations for those who find these helpful).

If you want to attach two squares together for a cushion cover or make more squares and connect for a blanket or afghan, there are basic instructions at the end. My yarn and gauge fits a standard 14x14” cushion insert, but I give options for expanding the pattern slightly if your piece comes out smaller.

I used Vanna’s Choice in mustard and silver grey - 84g / 130m color A and 57g / 89m color B.

Because we are working in the round from the centre there are no rough edges, which can be trickier to join, you have stitches on all four sides of your work to make it as simple as possible to finish your project neatly.
