Mouse in a Rocket
This pattern is for the mouse, the opening rocket with removable flames, the spacesuit, helmet & oxygen tank and an alien friend too!
The pattern contains lots of photos to help you every step of the way. It is written in English, using American crochet terms. All of my patterns have been independently tested prior to publication.
You will need:
Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used Patons Smoothie DK yarn for the majority of my project (this is quite a thick DK yarn so it is equivalent to aran or light worsted weight in other brands) and my finished rocket measures approximately 28.5cm tall (not including the flames at the bottom). Please ensure that you use the same weight yarn to make both your rocket and the mouse & clothing to ensure that they will fit.
For the mouse you will need the following colours:
- Main mouse colour - I used pale grey (approx. 23.5m).
- Nose / ears / feet / tail colour - I used pale pink (approx. 13m).
For the rocket you will need the following colours:
- Rocket body colour - I used red (approx. 90m).
- Rocket inner & cone colour - I used dark grey (approx. 207m).
- Rocket fin colour - I used pale grey (approx. 24m).
- 2 Flame colours - I used yellow (approx. 15.5m) and orange (approx. 34.5m).
For the spacesuit & alien you will need the following colours:
- Spacesuit main colour - I used white (approx. 41).
- Spacesuit belt colour - I used red (approx. 2m).
- Spacesuit accent / oxygen tank colour - I used pale grey (approx. 13m).
- Cheese colour - I used yellow (approx. 2m).
- Alien colour - I used green (approx. 20m).
Please note = The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.
You will also need:
- A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
- A pair of 6mm black safety eyes for the mouse & a single 15mm eye for the alien.
- Some toy stuffing.
- Some finer yarn or thread for adding the details on the faces and spacesuit. I used black, red & green.
- ‘7 count’ plastic canvas. I had a 26cm x 33cm sheet (that’s 10.25 x 13.5 inches) & I used 1 sheet. A higher count (that’s the number of holes per inch) will mean the plastic is more bendy so stick to 7 count if possible.
- A small button for the spacesuit (and a needle and thread with which to attach it).
- A medium button for the rocket (and a needle and thread with which to attach it).
- Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and some stitch markers.
You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself.
Thank you.
