This pattern is for the mouse, the opening ice cream van, the clothing and ice cream accessories (including fruit and chocolate lollies, ice cream cones, ice cream balls, scoop and boxes)!

Please be aware that the ice cream van is large (measurements are given below) and so this is a time-consuming project! The pattern contains lots of photos to help you every step of the way. It is written in English, using American crochet terms. All of my patterns have been independently tested prior to publication.

You will need:
Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used a mixture of Patons Smoothie & Knitcraft Cotton Blend Plain DK weight yarns for this project (these are quite thick yarns to be classed as DK, so they are equivalent to aran or light worsted weight yarn in most other brands) and my finished mouse measures approximately 10cm tall. My finished ice cream van measures approximately 30cm long, 17.5cm wide and 23cm tall. Please ensure that you use the same weight yarn throughout your project.

For the mouse & clothing (pages 4 - 10), you will need the following colours:

  • Main mouse colour - I used pale grey (approx. 23.5m).
  • Nose / ears / feet / tail colour - I used pale pink (approx. 13m).
  • Vest top colour - I used turquoise (approx. 8.5m).
  • Trousers colour - I used grey (approx. 9m).
  • Apron colour - I used white (approx. 4m).

For the ice cream van & accessories (pages 11 - 35), you will need the following colours:

  • Base / Roof / Wheel Arch / Window Frame Colour - I used dark blue (approx. 322m).
  • Lower Panel Colour - I used light blue (approx. 161m).
  • Upper Panel Colour - I used cream (approx. 187m).
  • Inner Wheels / Front Grill / Menu Sign Colour - I used dark grey (approx. 65.5m).
  • Tyres Colour - I used black (approx. 50m).
  • Headlights / Bunting / Ice Cream Colour - I used yellow (approx. 12.5m).
  • Indicators / Rear Sign / Ice Cream / Rocket Lolly Colour - I used orange (approx. 14m).
  • Rocket Lolly / Ice Cream Colour - I used pink (approx. 16.5m).
  • Ice Cream Sign Colour - I used turquoise (approx. 15.5m).
  • Chocolate Lolly Colour - I used brown (approx. 12.5m).
  • Rocket Lolly Colour - I used green (approx. 7.5m).
  • Ice Cream Cone / Lolly stick Colour - I used beige (approx. 36.5m).
  • Registration Plate Colour - I used white (approx. 2.5m).
  • Brake Light Colour - I used red (approx. 1.5m).

Please note The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.

You will also need:

  • A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
  • A pair of 6mm black safety eyes.
  • Some toy stuffing.
  • Small amounts of black finer yarn or thread for adding the details to the mouse’s face and the registration plate, front grill and rear sign.
  • 2 buttons for fastening the trousers / serving window. The ones I used were 15mm in diameter.
  • ‘7 count’ plastic canvas. I had a 26cm x 33cm sheet (that’s 10.25 x 13.5 inches) & I used 4.5 sheets (this includes using 2 layers of plastic inside the base panel). A higher count (that’s the number of holes per inch) will mean the plastic is more bendy so stick to 7 count if possible. If your plastic feels very bendy, you may wish to insert multiple layers of plastic into the panels to make your van stronger.
  • Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and some stitch markers.

You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself.
