This cowl is knitted from the bottom up on a circular needle. I have knitted in Alpakka from Sandnes Garn, but the pattern also works for other yarns as long as you keep the gauge in pattern.

It starts with twisted rib, then you follow the chart and end it with twisted rib.

If you want you can embroider duplicate stitches on the band in the same color as ribbing.
