I give loads of detailed information in my patterns with hints and tips and tricks. Of course, remember safety for baby toys. These specific examples are not baby safe with the embellishments that I have used, but can easily be modified to be made baby friendly.

The Rug/Playmat is 42” across as I have worked it. You can leave it as the rug or add the face toy to the center (pattern is included) - and then later the center part can be carefully clipped off and you still have the rug.

Rug: Materials: This playmat/rug is made by holding two strands at the same time. I have used 4-ply worsted weight yarns. My rug is made with one strand of Impeccable BIG! in Seaside Ombre (582 yds/10.5 ox/532m/297g) and a few colors of leftover Caron One Pound and Red Heart Super Saver yarns leftover from making the Robot Toy. I used almost 2 skeins of the Impeccable BIG! so plan on having at least 1100 yds of each one of the strands that you are holding. I used scraps with the BIG! yarn. My rug measures just over 42” across.

I used my size L/8mm hook for the two-strand rug and my size H/5mm hook for the face features.

These are written to be very beginner friendly. This pattern will help you make a round rug/mat worked in the round with continuous spiral crochet.

I use US Crochet terms.

Stitches Guide: US Terms apply

Single Crochet: SC
Inc Sc or Inc or 2sc: make two single crochet stitches in the same stitch as indicated
Half-double Crochet: hdc
Invisible Decrease: inv. dec. – this is an invisible single crochet decrease

Double Crochet: DC
BLO: back loop only/ FLO: front loop only
