UPDATE: November 2018 - I’ve done a new sample for this hat using Julie Asselin’s Nurtured in the Juliette colourway, (pink/grey).
Mrs. Draper’s Cable Hat is for knitters who are ready to tackle their first cable project, those who are cable pros but are looking for a quick, uncomplicated project, and everyone in between.
Mrs. Draper, of course, refers to Betty Draper of Mad Men fame as well as to the lovely shade of the MadelineTosh Vintage used in the project – Betty Draper’s Blues. Like Betty, the hat is pretty and elegant, (albeit a little twisted), and perhaps a bit intimidating on the outside, but once you take a closer look it’s actually quite simple.
A long ribbed cuff means you can wear the hat slouchy or as a tight beanie with a cuff. Reverse stockinette surrounds the narrow cables, providing wonderful texture that nicely offsets the cables. MadelineTosh Vintage is 100% merino wool spun into a very round and springy yarn, which really makes the texture of this hat sing as well as providing superb warmth and comfort. If substituting yarns I highly recommend seeking out something with a similar texture to maintain the overall texture of the hat.
