These stockinette mitts are the perfect canvas for a bit of embellishment with simple embroidery stitches.
Skills required
Long-tail cast-on
Working small circumferences in the round
Increasing
Decreasing
Picking up stitches
Embroidery (optional)

Sizes (measured above the thumb)
Small/medium will fit hands measuring 6.5 to 7.75 inches around
Medium/large will fit hands measuring 7.75 to 9 inches around
Materials
Approximately 120/140 yards of worsted-weight yarn. Sample mitts were knit in Knit Picks Simply Wool Worsted (100% eco wool)
US 6/4 mm needles or size needed to obtain gauge in your preferred configuration for working small circumferences
Second set of needles (dpns work well) to work thumb, or waste yarn to hold hand stitches
Stitch markers
Measuring tape
Tapestry needle for weaving in ends and doing embroidery
Scraps of contrasting yarn for embroidery
