Mudra mitts
Hands that give care and comfort to others deserve a lot of love and attention. So when I started to design these mitts, I wanted something pretty and elegant yet cosy and comfortable. I have used delicate cable-like stitches and lovely leaf lace motifs to achieve just that.
Yarn
Kate Davies Designs Milarrochy Tweed (70% Wool; 30% Mohair; 100m / 109yds per 25g ball)
Stockiemuir: 2 x 25g balls
Needles and notions
Gauge-size needle(s) of your preferred type for working small circumferences
Gauge-size double pointed needles for working thumb
Waste yarn (for holding thumb stitches)
Stitch markers
Tapestry needle
Gauge
32 sts and 38 rounds to 10cm / 4in over mock cable pattern in the round. Use 3mm needle as a starting point for swatching.
Sizes
To fit adult hand, with 18-20 (20-21.5) cm / 7-7½ (8-8½) in circumference.
Mitt length: 17 (27.5)cm / 6.5 (10.5) in. Shown in the second size and longer length.
Special techniques
3 stitch mock cable
Pattern Notes
These elegant mitts are worked from bottom to top, following a mock cable chart. After hand stitches are inserted and increased (following a chart featuring a leaf motif), thumb stitches are held on waste yarn while the mitt top is completed. The thumb top is then is worked separately.
