Muggle Artifact Sweater
“They run off eckeltricity, do they? Ah yes, I can see the plugs. I collect plugs … My wife thinks I’m mad, but there you are.”
—Arthur Weasley, in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J. K. Rowling
This is a sweater I imagine Mrs. Weasley might have knit for her husband, Arthur. Even though she may not understand or approve of his fascination with Muggle Artifacts, she loves him enough to use motifs that support his enthusiasm in a special sweater for him. Artifacts become decorative elements. In this design, I included: extension cords; electrical waves visible with an oscilloscope; lightbulbs: snowflakes of plugs and lightning bolts; and the technical symbol for a type of coil. This sweater does not include any automotive motifs: I am confident the flying car made Mrs. Weasley so angry she would not want to invoke its memory in this project.
This sweater is knit in the round to the armholes then worked back and forth to the shoulders. Sleeves are picked up and knit in the round from armhole to cuff. No seams! Those who prefer to steek should feel comfortable adapting the pattern to their method.
