Multi Pocket scarf
This scarf features pockets that are knit along with the scarf body using a double knitting technique with one yarn. There is no seaming involved other than connecting the two scarf ends; the join is made at a pocket top. The pocket tops are finished by binding off, with optional upper ribbing and optional button loop closures.
The red scarf shown has one pocket on each end, and was worked in a slightly thick-and-thin bulky yarn that played well with seed stitch and blends nicely with the reverse stockinette of the pockets.
The scarf’s width is determined by the initial cast on using a size needle that produces a seed stitch fabric that you like, and the pocket depth is determined by the number of rows worked as is the total scarf length. Additional pockets may be knit on each scarf end.
Any weight yarn can be used, changing the number of stitches cast on to determine scarf width. Any pattern that is non-curling can be used in place of seed stitch for the scarf body.
