I wanted to make a cardigan to a gorgeous little girl I know far up in the north of Norway. She is the third child after 2 lovely boys, and I wanted to make a very girly and feminine little cardigan for her.
So here it is - with lots of girly attributes: flower lace pattern as a peplum which makes the lower part of the body float a bit, picot egings (knitted, NOT crocheted), lovely flower shaped buttons and a rib-texture to the sleeves and arms that will follow her body smothely without clinging. And a small eyelet border towards her lovely little face. Luckily there is always a baby to be knitted for!
The cardigan can be worn buttoned or open. When open the neck folds down like a chic collar.
The knitting is fast and fun. The body is knitted back and forth on circular needles, starting with the lace peplum, followed by rib-pattern that makes the cardigan seem shaped, althoug it isn’t. The practical thing about this is that the cardigan can be worn by both tiny and rounder babies, as the rib-pattern follows the shape of the body. When body is worked to the armholes, sleeves are worked and then all parts are assembled together for raglan. Buttonband and buttonhold-band is integrated in the knitting. The finishing work is very limited - only a short seam under each arm!
