Updated Version: Expression Fiber Arts Restore DK yarn (219 yds/200 m per 3.5 oz/100 g skein)

The updated sample is shown in color Mimic, and you’ll need four skeins.

Original Version: Expression Fiber Arts Alpaca Silk DK yarn (230 yds/210 m per 3.5 oz/100 g skein)

The original sample is shown in colors French Bulldog (single-color version) and Alps Alpaca Silk DK (multicolored version), and you’ll need three skeins.

If those yarns or colors aren’t available, any from this category will work.

NEEDLES:

Updated Version: US size 9 (5.5 mm) needles, or size needed to make gauge. Extra needle (same size or smaller) required for three-needle bind off.

Original Version: US size 8 (5.0 mm) needles, or size needed to make gauge. Extra needle (same size or smaller) required for three-needle bind off.

SKILL LEVEL:

Adventurous Beginner to Intermediate - This pattern is for those who are ready to learn some new skills or stitch combinations. Stitches/skills include basic lace, blocking, and seaming.

Notes from the Designer:

Waterfalls are enchanting to me. Graceful, yet powerful; mesmerizing in their display of the force of nature. During a family vacation one year, we spent the better part of a day exploring several of the many waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge. Each very different, each beautiful in their own way. The most memorable to me was Multnomah Falls. At over 600 feet high, it is an inspiring sight to see and comes with its own charming story of its creation!

This poncho may be worn in several ways. When you allow one side to drop straight from your shoulder, the poncho is reminiscent of the steady stream of a waterfall.

The poncho is knit as a flat rectangle, using a very simple lace pattern and knitted-on i-cord edge. Before binding off, stitches are picked up along one edge. The three-needle bind off then completes the design, requiring only the weaving in of ends inside of the i-cord.

• The updated version used 751 yds/687 m total. The original versions used 605 yds/553 m total each.
• The original versions were made in our Alpaca Silk DK yarn. Sample A was made with color French Bulldog (solid blue), and Sample B was made with color Alps (multi-color). Both original versions used three skeins each.
• The first three stitches on every RS row will form an i-cord edge. Work the first four stitches very loosely so that the i-cord is able to stretch evenly along the length of your work.
• When working with multiple skeins of the same hand-dyed color, alternating skeins every couple of rows is recommended to avoid color pooling. Watch a tutorial on this technique here.
• Always join a new skein on the RS at the inside of the i-cord edge. This will allow you to invisibly weave ends up inside of the i-cord. Simply begin the RS row by slipping the first three stitches, join the yarn, and continue.
