INTRO
If you’re a fan of the magical realism genre in literature (and art), then you are likely no stranger to the works of Haruki Murakami. Born in Kyoto, Japan, Murakami constructs mostly first-person narratives whose characters inhabit an ordinary Japanese world bombarded with elements of fantasy. If I were stranded on an island and had to pick just one author whose works would entertain me for the rest of my life, I would choose Haruki Murakami.
For me this cable design stirs up images from Murakami’s mesmerizing novels, many of which I have read repeatedly. Born out of a 2x2 brim, the cables take both expected and unexpected paths for a dreamlike—dare we say magical—effect.
Murakami is worked in the round, and the pattern includes both chart and written instructions.
