Murphy the Sleepy Mole
This pattern is for Murphy the sleepy mole, complete with his pyjamas, sleep hat, shark slippers, blanket, book, hot water bottle (in a shark cover) and mug of hot chocolate!
The pattern contains lots of photos to help you every step of the way. It is written in English, using American crochet terms. All of my patterns have been independently tested prior to publication.
You will need:
Yarn of your choice. Yarn weight doesn’t really matter - the size of your project will simply turn out bigger or smaller! I used dk weight yarn for my project (equivalent to light worsted weight / weight 3) and my finished mole measures approximately 17cm tall (not including the hat!). Please ensure that you use the same weight yarn to make both the mole and the clothes to ensure that they will fit.
For the mole (pages 4 - 10), you will need the following colours:
- Main mole colour - I used brown (although grey is used in the process photos) (approx. 103m).
- Nose & feet colour - I used light pink (approx. 16.5m).
For the pyjamas & accessories (pages 11 - 22), you will need the following colours:
- Light Blue - pyjamas & sleep hat (approx. 105m).
- White - slippers, hot water bottle cover, book, sleep hat & blanket (approx. 141m).
- Brown - book & mug of hot chocolate (approx. 10.5m).
- Cream - hot water bottle & mug of hot chocolate (approx. 20.5m).
- Grey - slippers & hot water bottle cover (approx. 33m).
- Red - slippers & hot water bottle cover (approx. 2.5m).
Please Note - The amount of yarn used will vary according to yarn weight, hook size and stitch tension so these measurements are only a rough guide. The pattern refers to the colours that I used, however these can be substituted for colours of your choice.
You will also need:
- A suitable size hook for the yarn you have chosen - I used a 4mm hook.
- A pair of 6mm black safety eyes.
- Some toy stuffing.
- A small amount of black finer yarn or thread for adding the mole’s mouth and eyelids.
- 2 buttons for fastening the pyjama top. The ones I used were 15mm in diameter.
- If you would like your mole to have glasses you will need some thick craft wire - I used 1mm craft wire. This step is optional and not recommended if you are making this item for a child.
- Other tools you will need are a tapestry needle, some scissors and some stitch markers.
You are welcome to sell the items that you make using this pattern, but please do not sell / share the pattern itself.
Thank you
