Mushroom Basket with Lid
This basket crochet pattern includes instructions for a mushroom basket sure to get your creativity flowing, with a cap that fits directly on top. Using the pattern, your choice of colors and decorations can personalize your own cottagecore woodland fairy house for holding treasures -- or hand towels. Add shrubbery, or a chimney, or flowers! Personalize to your heart’s content.
Skill level: Best for advanced beginner to intermediate crocheters, who are familiar with the terms chain, magic circle, slip stitch, half double crochet, single crochet, crocheting in the back loops only (BLO), and increases. Some basic sewing is involved for decoration.
Materials needed:
10mm crochet hook
6mm or 7mm crochet hook
Super bulky weight yarn (size 6) in basket color and cap color
Worsted weight yarn (size 4) in cap spots color, door color, and shrubbery color(s)
Tapestry or yarn needle
Scissors
Optional: button for doorknob
Yarn needed:
Basket: 200yd / 320g, which is 2 full skeins of Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick yarn
Basket cap: 150yd / 240g, which is about 3⁄4 of 2 whole skeins
--Note: One of my pattern testers used 4 strands of worsted weight acrylic yarn (size 4) instead of 2 strands of super bulky, and that worked out well in terms of size.
Decorations (mushroom spots, door, doorknob, greenery): 2-20 yards each
Language: Pattern is written in English, using USA crochet terms.
Basket description and size: The cylinder basket has a flat base and two handles at the top on either side. Once complete the basket is about 10 inches wide and 10 inches tall, though exact size will depend on your yarn type and crocheting tension. Could size up or down on yarn size/type and hook size for different size baskets, such as using 2 strands of worsted weight yarn with a 6mm hook for a smaller basket.
Pattern itself: The pattern is 5 pages and includes photos and detailed instructions. There are two files which will be available to download; the filename ending in “Printer Friendly” will use less ink for your printing needs.
