A melody of ripples (thanks to the wide bias rib) and poetic picot edging combine to make a scarf that sings!
Scarf is knitted flat in 2 identical sections from tips to center. It begins with a picot cast on and is worked in wide bias ribs, with picot edging along one side. Pieces are grafted together (yes, you can do that!) in the center. The finished scarf is uniform in width through the center, with long tapered ends.
Yarn:
Sunday Knits 3 ply yarn (light sport weight - 246 yds / 225 m per 1-3/4 oz / 50g skein): Angelic (75% merino 25% angora), Eden (100% merino), Nirvana (92% merino 8% cashmere) or Brigadoon (100% merino tweed). Shown in Eden zinnia.
Substitute any light sport weight wool or wool-blend yarn that works nicely to gauge; 525-550 yds.
Techniques:
Picot cast on and picot edging (both using knitted cast-on method), increases (work in front and in back of a stitch), decreases (ssk and p2tog), grafting (knitwise).
Difficulty level:
While there are no especially challenging techniques used, there are a number of things going on at once from the start: increases, decreases, ribs and picots to keep track of. Still, after not too many rows, it will take on a pleasant and soothing rhythm.
Pattern includes:
Written instructions, supplementary chart covering the first 100 (out of 266) rows, glossary.
