About the pattern
The hat is knit bottom up in the round. Its main feature is broken rib texture, which makes it absolutely unisex.
You can make it fully your own, choosing:

  • The fit (fitted or slouchy);
  • Brim height (single or double) and whether it’s adjustable or fixed;
  • Yarn weight (pattern written for fall – DK and winter – Aran, OR your own gauge!)

This pattern includes 2 types of instructions:
• Written pattern for 7 sizes in the range of 51-65 cm/20-25.5” head circumference (to fit a pre-teen through adult XXL) if you meet one of the two pattern gauges (DK and aran versions);
• Recipe to calculate for a different gauge / head circumference (shown in blue boxes throughout the text).

Sizes
A total of 7 sizes, for head circumference 51-65 cm/20-25.5” to fit a pre-teen through adult XXL head

Yarns
You can choose any yarn you like! (I suggest at least 50% wool content). Anywhere between sport and aran should work for this pattern.

Gauge

  • DK: 25 sts in 10cm/4”
  • aran: 18 sts in 10cm/4” But you can also use the formulas in the pattern to rework it for your own gauge.

Needles

  • 40cm/24” circulars for the main part and DPNs/ magic loop for the crown (default for DK ~3.5mm/US 4; for aran ~5mm/US 8)
  • 40cm/24” circulars for the brim, should be 0.5 mm / 1 US size thinner than the main ones

Notions
Tape measure, (gauge) ruler, stitch markers, tapestry needle, row counter (optional), scissors
