The pattern is the second of 5+1 patterns from the Friendship e-book.

The stitch pattern used for this shawl, both the shape and its 3D quality, reminds me of tea cups. I imagine giving this shawl as a present to a friend or a family member to express that they are “my cup of tea.” Or if you keep it for yourself with the message that “I am my cup of tea,” it may serve for enhancing self-love and self-compassion.

The shawl is shaped as a deep crescent with increases along the sides of the shawl and in the patterned section. The shawl is worked top down in one piece, and the size is easily customizable—the pattern repeat is only 8 rows. While the sample is worked from sport weight, the shawl will look great when worked in any weight yarn, from fingering to worsted.

US 3 3.25 mm circular needle, at least 36”/90 cm long or size to obtain gauge

Gauge
Blocked: 20 stitches and 32 rows = 4”/10 cm square in garter stitch.
Unblocked: 22 stitches and 42 rows = 4”/10 cm square in garter stitch.

Gauge is not crucial for this project, but will affect yardage and finished size if different from above.

klementine This has been a nice and easy knit, even combinable with reading :) and at the same time still requires a bit of attention, so you won’t get bored! Easy to be customized, I have knitted the shawl with lighter yarn, but with more pattern repeats. Just knit it!

allisongibbs Easy to memorize with lovely results. Works well with halo yarn, pretty in solid but would work with a gradient nicely.
