Hat is made for the average or large head size, approximately 20”-22” or 22”-24”.
The hat can be made in either size the only change being in the amount of stitches cast on. You would knit the increase round rather than increase for the smaller size.
Only a small amount of contrast color is needed for the pattern repeat. You may also just make the hat plain, just use the same amount of rounds required.
If you would like a double folded brim just double the amount of ribbing rounds.
