This is a pattern for a very “long wingspan” crescent shaped shawlette. If you have never made an Estonian Shawl, this is a great first project. The “nupps” are made without “turning” the work, and are very easy to do. But, the finished product will still make you look like an expert at Estonian knitting.

The shawlette measures 68 inches at the widest points across the top and is 18inches deep at the deepest point. The wide wingspan affords you many more options in how you would like to wear it. Because of its width, you will never have a problem with it “falling off” your shoulders.

It is made with one of the heavier fingering weight yarns, and is knit on size 7 (U.S.) needles. The shawlette requires approximately 700 yards of yarn, making it both an excellent first time Estonian-like lace shawl project, as well as the perfect gift.

The stitch is both charted and written out line by line.

Skill Level: Beginner + - Intermediate (assuming a basic knowledge of lace knitting).

The shawlette was expertly test knitted by Barbara Robertson, who can be contacted at: Barb. Robertson@ gmail.com, who is known on Ravelry as, “NanaKnits4Us.” The yarn used in the sample is Handmaiden’s Casbah yarn, in colorway, Salt Spray.
