Are you a new knitter looking for your next challenge? Need a quick gift or a weekend project? You’ll love tackling this simple hat using a colorful or textural super bulky yarn!

Although we would normally recommend using a US 13 (9 mm) needle for the brim to ensure a springier fit, this pattern was written specifically for newer knitters or anyone who wants to keep the knitting simple and the supply list low. Hence the one recommended needle size. If you are using a 16” circular, you will also need a set of double point needles; otherwise, we recommend the Magic Loop technique.

Please note that the recommended gauge is unblocked. The pattern was designed for 100 grams of super bulky (#6) yarn, but you may need more yarn if your knitting gauge differs from the recommended gauge. The resulting fabric should be somewhat flexible (not overly dense and stiff).

This is a great “serial project” for gift knitters--have fun!
