This is my go to washcloth (dishcloth) pattern. No counting other than the starting chain. Easy, lovely, desirable, giftable, and mindless.

I typically make the 8” size. People love them.

You can forgo the extra stitch in the chain, and do any even number of stitches to start, if you like. I prefer the sharper corner though.

The ch1 counts as the first sc, and you always end with a dc. This makes it very easy for beginners who miss the last stitch in crochet (or put in extra). Finally, straight sides!
